Do you remember when we used to queue up at banking halls just to make a payment of #5,000 ?

or when the only way to recharge our phone is by physically purchasing and scratching a “recharge card”?

Those were good memories but technology has made everything alot easier.

The introduction of USSD (Unstructured supplementary service data) to the Nigerian banking system has made it alot easier to transfer money and make payments anywhere you are.

USSD code allows anyone to make financial transactions without access to the internet.  Each bank in Nigeria has its specific code which can used by only their customers. This article takes a look at the USSD codes for majority of Banks in Nigeria.

 

 

All Nigerian Banks Transfer Code

The following is a list of all the USSD Transfer Codes for Access Bank, GTBank, Wema Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Zenith Bank, Skye Bank, First Bank of Nigeria (FBN), Sterliing Bank, Fidelity Bank, and Union Bank.

Access Bank Transfer Code :

Access Bank offers mobile banking on its platform with the USSD code *901#. Not only can you perform basic transactions like recharging airtime, transferring funds between banks and checking account balance, you can easily open a new Access Bank account via the USSD without visiting a physical branch and filling forms. You don’t even needmoney to open a bank account using access bank transfer code.

For new users, dial *901*0# to register on the Access Bank Mobile Banking portal using your existing bank account, or opening a new account with your BVN number.

Airtime Transactions

To recharge airtime for your registered phone number, dial *901*Amount#.

To recharge airtime for other phone numbers, dial *901*Amount*Phone Number#.

This USSD code will work only if you dial them from the phone number that is connected to your Access Bank account, and they can be used to recharge airtime on any network in Nigeria. Airtime recharge transactions are free of service charges.

Money Transfer Transactions

For money transactions using access bank transfer code , you’d need the last four digits of your BVN number for authentication.

To transfer money to an Access Bank account, dial *901*1*account number#.

To transfer money to other bank accounts, dial *901*2*account number#.

Transferring money to Access Bank accounts attracts a service charge of N20, while transferring to other bank accounts a charge of N52.50 (N50 service charge + N2.50 VAT).

Bill Payment Transactions

For general bill payment transactions, dial *901*3# and choose your desired option from the prompt that shows up. You can use this service to pay for bills like DSTV subscriptions and Smile / Swift internet charges. General bill payment transactions attract a service charge of N100.

For payments to PayWithCapture merchants, dial *901*3*AMOUNT*MERCHANT ID#. You can get the merchant id by asking the appropriate merchant. For these transactions, you would need One Time Passwords (OTP) and you can generate one by dialling *901*4*1#. OTP generation and PayWithCapture transactions don’t attract any transaction fees.

Account Query Transactions

You can check your Access Bank account number by dialling *901*5# from your registered phone number. You will need the last four digits of your BVN to successfully perform this transaction.

GTBank Transfer Code :

GTBank allows its customers to easily perform transactions using the USSD code *737#.

For transactions using gtbank transfer code , you need the last four digits of your GTBank Naira Mastercard for authentication.

Airtime Transactions

Just like access bank , you can recharge both your line and others using gtbank transfer code.

To recharge airtime for your registered phone number, dial *737*Amount#.

Airtime recharge transactions are free of service charges,  and the daily airtime recharge limit is N5,000.

Money Transfer Transactions

To transfer money to a GTBank account, dial *737*1*Amount*account number#.

To transfer money to other bank accounts, dial *737*2*Amount*account number#.

This service costs N20.

Etisalat subscribers can also open a GTEasySavers account with no initial account balance by dialing *737*0#.

Wemabank Transfer Code :

The base USSD code for performing all transactions on the Wemabank transfer code is *945#.

Like Access & GTBank, you can also open a new Wema Bank account via USSD by dialling *945# and supplying the required information.

To link your BVN to your account, dial *945*BVN#, and to get your current BVN dial *945# and select the Link BVN option in the menu.

Airtime Transactions

To recharge airtime for your registered phone number, dial *945*Amount#.

To recharge airtime for other phone numbers, dial *945*Phone Number*Amount#.

These USSD codes will work only if you dial them from the phone number that is connected to your Access Bank account, and they can be used to recharge airtime on any network in Nigeria. Airtime recharge transactions are free of service charges.

Money Transfer Transactions

For financial transactions using wemabank transfer code , you’d need the four-digit PIN you created when registering for the USSD banking service.

To transfer money to all bank accounts, dial *945*1*account number*amount#.

To change your USSD PIN, simply dial *945*00#.

Maximum fund transfer limit is N100,000 per day.

To withdraw from the ATM without your card, dial *945*8*amount# to generate a withdrawal code which you will then input into the supported ATMs to withdraw. Maximum withdrawal limit via this method is N20,000 per code, and the minimum is N1000.

Bill Payment Transactions

For all bill payment transactions, simply dial *945# and select Pay Bills from the menu.

Account Query Transactions

You can check your Access Bank account number by dialing *945*0# from your registered phone number.

UBA Transfer Code :

The general uba transfer code for transactions is *919#.

Airtime Transactions

To recharge airtime for your registered phone number, dial *919*Amount#.

To recharge airtime for other phone numbers, dial *919*Phone Number*Amount#.

These USSD codes will work only if you dial them from the phone number that is connected to your UBA account, and they can be used to recharge airtime on any network in Nigeria. Airtime recharge transactions are free of service charges.

Money Transfer Transactions

To transfer money to a UBA account, dial *919*3#.

To transfer money to a UBA Prepaid Card, dial *919*32#.

To transfer money to other bank accounts, dial *919*4#.

To perform other transactions with your UBA account using USSD, just dial *919# and select the desired option.

Zenith Bank Transfer Code :

The general zenith bank transfer code for all transactions is *966#.

You can dial *966*0# to create a new Zenith Bank account number.

Airtime Transactions

To recharge airtime, dial *966*Amount*Phone Number#.

Money Transfer Transactions

To transfer money to another bank account, dial *966*Amount*account number#.

Bill Payment Transactions

To pay DSTV and PHCN bills, dial *966*7*Amount*Customer ID#.

Account Query Transactions

You can check your Zenith Bank account balance by dialling *966*00# from your registered phone number.

Skyebank Transfer Code :

All transactions on Skye Bank USSD banking platform are done with the USSD code *833#. Simply dial the code and follow the prompts to perform all your transactions.

Firstbank Transfer Code :

The general first bank transfer code for all transactions is *894#.

You can dial *894*0# to create a new First Bank account number.

Airtime Transactions

To recharge airtime for your registered phone number, dial *894*Amount#.

To recharge airtime for your other phone numbers, dial *894*Amount*Phone Number#.

Money Transfer Transactions

To transfer money to another bank account, dial *894*Amount*account number#.

Account Query Transactions

You can check your First Bank account balance by dialling *894*00# from your registered phone number.

To reset your mobile banking PIN, dial *894*0#.

To get a mini-statement for your account, dial *894*Account Number#.

Sterling Bank Transfer Code :

The general USSD code for transactions on Sterling Bank is *822#.

You can dial *822*7# to create a new Sterling Bank tier 1 Kia-Kia savings account, or *822*1*Account Number# to register on the USSD Banking platform if you have a Sterling Bank account.

MTN and Etisalat subscribers need to have at least N5 airtime to access this service.

The general USSD code for transactions on Fidelity Bank is *770#.

Airtime Transactions

To recharge airtime for your registered phone number, dial *770*Amount#.

To recharge airtime for other phone numbers, dial *770*Phone Number*Amount#.

Money Transfer Transactions

To transfer money to another bank account, dial *770*account number*Amount#.

Bill Payment Transactions

To pay bills, dial *770*BILLER CODE*SMART CARD NUMBER*Amount#.

Account Query Transactions

You can check your Fidelity Bank account balance by dialling *770*0# from your registered phone number.

To update your BVN, dial *770*02#.

To reset your mobile banking PIN, dial *770*00#, and to change your PIN, dial *770*01#.

To deactivate mobile banking on your phone number, dial *770*20*0#.

To block your card, dial *770*911#.

To select between SMS and email alerts, dial *770*2#.
