Gionee S11 is the global model of the eight flagship smartphones unveiled by Gionee back in November as part of its Winter 2017 series. It has an attractive bezel-less design backed up by powerful internal specs and four cameras for professional photography.

Design & Display

The Gionee S11 is in between a smartphone and a tablet (phablet), featuring a 5.99-inch display at the front. The phone uses the IPS LCD display technology which offers vivid colours. Colour reproduction is also top-notch with a Full HD+ (1080 * 2160) pixel resolution and 403 PPI pixel density.

 

It comes with glass on the rear, with a metal aluminium frame manning the sides, underside and top to keep things sturdy. This smartphone follows the latest design trend, featuring a FullView display with minimal bezels on all sides and a 18:9 aspect ratio.

The top bezel houses the earpiece, sensors, dual selfie cameras and LED flash. Its bottom bezel is reduced in size and left bare to provide a wide aspect ratio, and on-screen buttons are used for navigation. The phone sports a fingerprint sensor on the rear way below the dual camera and LED flash setup.

Memory & Performance

Gionee went with the high-end MediaTek Helio P23 which runs on the 16nm process on the S11, with eight cores that can operate at a maximum speed of 2.5GHz. It is assisted in terms of graphics processing by a Mali G71 MP2 GPU which can run at speeds up to 800MHz.

This phone comes with 4GB of Low-Power DDR4x (LPDDR4x) RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB with the use of an external microSD card.

Camera

There are four cameras on the Gionee S11 divided equally between the two sides of the smartphone. The Gionee S11 sports a 16MP primary camera and 8MP secondary camera on the rear together with a dual-tone LED flash for image illumination.

 

 

Present upfront for selfie photography are two cameras, the primary one with a 16MP lens and the secondary one with a 5MP lens.

The device also has real-time hardware-level Bokeh that identifies the object you’re focusing on and blurs its background, like professional standalone and DLSR cameras do. You also get advanced versions of the popular beauty mode feature in the default camera app.

Battery, Connectivity & Software

The Gionee S11 packs a 3410mAh Lithium-Polymer battery that can last for up to a day, even on heavy usage. It comes with an hybrid dual Nano SIM slot and supports 4G VoLTE network connectivity.

You have Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n for wireless connectivity, while GPS with GLONASS helps with location tracking and determination. The Gionee S11 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, upon which version 5.0 of Gionee’s custom Amigo OS is layered with extra software customizations.

The Gionee S11 will be available for around $272 in December, which would likely translate to around #96,000 when it becomes available in Nigeria.
