Airtel Tariff Plans

Why spend so much on calls when there are special plans to help you save?

With Airtel Tariff Plans , you can significantly reduce your call bills by more than 100%.

Airtel is one of the teleco companies in Nigeria that has survived for a very long time.

For those that have stayed with the network through its several name and management changes from Econet to V-mobile, to Celtel, to Zain, and currently  Airtel, I say kudos.

One thing I admire about the network is that their offers of cheap call rates and tariff remained constant throughout.

This article takes a look at the airtel tariff plans available in Nigeria.

All The Airtel Tariff Plans In Nigeria

The available Airtel tariff plans :

  • Airtel smartTALK 2.0
  • Airtel smartCONNECT
  • Airtel smartVALUE
  • Airtel smartTRYBE Junior
  • Airtel smartPREMIER
  • Airtel smartROAM

Airtel regards their subscribers as “smart” , so all Airtel tariff plans offer smart rates for different category of users.

That is just marketing BS, but you get the point ; Airtel considers you special.

There’s one thing to note about migrating across different Airtel tariff plans; you can migrate for free only once in a month, and subsequent migrations within the same month will be charged at N100.

1). Airtel smartTALK 2.0

Airtel smartTALK 2.0 offers one of the lowest call rates among all networks in Nigeria. It allows you to make calls at just N11k/s to all local networks throughout the day, but there’s a catch; you have to pay a daily access fee of N5.

The daily access fee will be deducted when you make your first call of the day, and all calls throughout the day (including the first one) will be charged at N11k/s. This means that if you do not make any call in a day, you won’t be charged the daily access fee.

For y’all thinking “come on, man’s international now”, smartTALK 2.0 has something for you. You can make international calls to destinations like USA, Canada, China, India and UK Landlines at a rate of N20k/s. The daily access fee also applies here.

To migrate to Airtel smartTALK 2.0, dial *315#. The plan is available for both new and existing subscribers.

Due to the fact that a daily fee of N5 has to be charged for you to access the plan’s benefits, you won’t be able to make calls at all if your account balance is lower than N5.

Even if it’s #4.99, bros , you still wouldn’t be able to make that call.

2). Airtel smartCONNECT

smartCONNECT is probably Airtel’s most profitable tariff plan. You get big call and data bonuses upon recharge, and it’s so popular that it is the default tariff plan for all Airtel subscribers. You can’t migrate to smartCONNECT; once you register your SIM, you’re automatically placed on the plan, and once you migrate away to another plan, you can’t migrate back.

100% Month-end data bonus

At the end of each month, you will get 100% of the total of all your airtime recharges that month in the form of data bonus. However, you have to recharge at least N200 total in a month to enjoy this month-end bonus.

For example, if your total recharge throughout the month is N500, you’ll get N500 into your bonus account to be used for browsing only, on the last day of the month. Browsing for this bonus is charged at N5 per megabyte(MB), and it’s valid for seven days.

Additionally, for the first three months after registering your SIM, you get 8X the value of your recharges of N100 and above.

Here’s how this works:

You can register certain Airtel numbers as Family and friends by dialing *311*2*number#. You can also delete a number by dialing *311*3*number# and view all registered numbers by dialing *311*4#.

So within your first three months, you get 800% of your recharges in this manner:

  • (100% of) Your airtime recharge goes to your main account (before nko).
  • 250% goes to your voice bonus account.
  • 250% goes to your data bonus account.
  • 100% goes to your social bonus account.
  • 100% goes to your Family and friends bonus account. That makes 800%.

The social bonus can be used on WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook and BBM only, and it’s valid for seven days.

Airtel smartCONNECT call rates

From the main account, calls to all networks, both local and international will be charged at 50k/s. On the bonus account, call to local networks will be charged at N60k/s while international call rates will remain the same. Calls to numbers registered as Family and friends will be charged at N40k/s.

3). Airtel smartVALUE

Airtel smartVALUE allows you to make calls at a flat rate of N15k/s to all networks in Nigeria, while international calls to USA, Canada, China, India and UK Landline will be charged at N20k/s.

Is smartTALK not better than this? afterall it’s charged at N11k/s ?

Well, that is true, but there’s a difference.

On Airtel smartVALUE, you are not required to pay any daily access fee, while on smartTALK 2.0, you have to pay N5 daily to enjoy its benefits.

To migrate to Airtel smartVALUE, dial *314#.

4). Airtel smartTRYBE

Airtel smartTRYBE maybe very useful for university students as it offers special data bonuses on popular campus locations, coupled with other call and data bundle discounts. It is the equivalent of MTN Pulse and 9mobile Cliqlite tariff plans.

SmartTRYBE data bonuses

All data bundles of N500 and above purchased on all campuses within Nigeria will result in a 30% extra bonus. You get to buy 1GB of data for N500 (valid for seven days), and you can also enjoy night browsing which gives you 500MB for just N25 within 12AM and 5AM.

All calls on smartTRYBE are charged at N11k/s.

To migrate to Airtel smartTRYBE, dial *312#.

5). Airtel smartTRYBE Junior

SmartTRYBE Junior is just like 9mobile’s Cliqlite plan; it offers learning resources for primary and secondary school children, and allows parents to monitor their children on the Airtel network.

It offers NERDC-approved courses and can be accessed by dialing *317#.

Other benefits are:

  • Kids get 10% of their parent’s recharge.
  • Data purchases of 200MB and above gives 100% bonus.

6). Airtel smartPREMIER

The Airtel smartPREMIER tariff plan is similar to the smartTALK 2.0 plan, but there are some intricacies.

Calls to all networks are charged at N11k/s throughout the day, but for the first minute of the day, calls are charged at N40k/s. The same rule applies to international calls.

You also qualify for free incoming calls when roaming after you recharge at least #5000. The internet crawlers are not left out, as you get up to 150MB data bonus on every recharge.

To migrate to Airtel smartPREMIER, dial *318#.

7). Airtel smartROAM

As the name suggests, Airtel smartROAM is suitable for those who travel frequently and need to keep connected to their loved ones and business contacts.

Upon a recharge of at least N5000 in a month, subscribers get free incoming calls when roaming on 10 networks in 5 selected countries throughout the month.

You don’t have to recharge all the 5k at once, though; once all your recharges within a month add up to N5000, you get the free incoming roaming calls for 30 days.

The following are the networks on which you’re eligible for this offer in different countries:

  1. Saudi Arabia – Zain & STC.
  2. South Africa – Cell C & Vodacom.
  3. UK – Orange, Telefonica O2 and Vodafone.
  4. USA – AT&T.
  5. UAE – DU & Etisalat.

To migrate to Airtel smartROAM, simply recharge a minimum of N5,000 when you’re roaming on any of the above networks in the corresponding country.
